All the IBSA Judo team would like to say thank you to all judo referees whose dedication has been a major asset for the developpement of blind Judo over the past years. The level of refereeing is always improving and our athletes are very lucky to have such great referees along them during competions.
Here are some words from Jean-Claude Prieur (IBSA Judo Chairman) : I am very optimistic for the level of refereeing during the London 2012 Paralympics Games. I am confident that selected referees will deliver their best, in order to give athletes great fight conditions. Again I would like to say thank you, as the quality of refereeing in our IBSA Judo competitons is always improving and without their time and dedication, the developpement of IBSA Judo would not be the same".

Jean-Claude Prieur (IBSA Judo Chairman) was in Beijing from 4 to 9 of December in order to attend the IPC Sports Council. All major members of the Paralympic movement were invited by the BODA (Beijing Olympic Developpment Association), and it was a perfect time to discuss and prepar the next summer games in London 2012 and winter games in Sotchi 2014.
This was also a great opportunity to highlight how important is to work harder in order to provide a better access to sport for all impaired people. There are still too many places where impaired people have no oppotunity to stay connected to the community and sport can be a tool to make them (re)integrate the community. It is now very important that more coaches have the tools and capacities to train non-disabled and impaired people. They must know rules, technics and all other important things. They can follow e-learning trainning on www.paralympic.org and gain level of specification.
On this occasion and thanks to Miss Chai Ling (IBSA referee) we had the opportunity to visite the
China Administration of Sports for Persons with Disabilities. This wwas very impressive, such a tool is very great for the developpement of paralympic sports. Mr Zhang the Chairman of this facility told us that he would like to organise an IBSA Judo camp before the London games and maybe the next world Championships.

look to add a European title to his international success as he sees
action in the -60kg category.
Young brothers Marc and Daniel Powell compete at -73kg and -81kg respectively.
Fellow brothers Sam and Joe Ingram were both selected for the event but unfortunately Joe has had to pull out through injury.
Sam will represent the Ingram family as he aims for more success having medalled at all the biggest events on the VI calendar.
Beijing
bronze medallist Sam, a two-time VI World Championship runner-up, takes

for her first European medal.
Paralympic
Programme Manager Dave Sanders said: “The team have prepared really
well for this event and are all looking forward to competing in front of
home crowd at such a major event – the first time many of the players
have had the chance to do this.
“With such a strong team and a number of very established medallists, we hope to put on a good show for the crowd.”
Paralympic
Performance Coach Jean-Paul Bell said: "I am very excited and looking
forward to the team competing on home soil. All of the players have

that’s competing you need to test yourself at the biggest events a year
out from the Games. There’ll be a great calibre of judoka there and
it’ll be a great test for me.
“The
British team and I would love to be spurred on by a packed home crowd
so come along and support us. Give is a little bit of inspiration, it’s a
big year for us and if you’ve secured Paralympic tickets then why not
come along to the event and find out more about VI judo. It’s one of our
last tests before the Games and our last chance to do so on home soil,
so we’d love to see big home crowd and we’ll be sure to make everyone
proud.”

Due to a low number of inscriptions, the first African IBSA Judo Championships has been postponed to 2012. It will not be happening in Cape Town in November 2011 as schedulded.
All the iBSA Judo Team and African nations will keep on working together in order to have this Championship organised and that one day more African judo players will participate in Paralympics Games.
It is also important for the IBSA Judo team, to thank Lorraine Job for the great work she has been doing.

The IBSA Judo team was presenting its actions and competitons during the Judo World Championships in Paris, Bercy. We gave many information about blind judo to young and older judo fans and they were very impressed by the level of IBSA Judo competitiors.
We were presenting our newsletter Jogai, different images of our last competitons (IBSA World Games 11, IBSA Judo World Championships 10) and the movie B1 on which we can follow the great Brazilian athlete Tenorio. It was also the opportunity to make judo fan try special glasses to show them the different sort of eye deases.
Our great ambassador Henri Courtine, was on the stand for signings, and many people went to meet him. Here is a selection of photos where it is possible to see how youngs and olders were happy to meet the unique French with 10th dan grade.

Colorado Springs, Colorado; USA
Ryan Lucas: Contributing Writer:
media@usaba.org
For the fourth time
since 2005, dreams and cultures and language differences from around the
globe converged two weeks ago in Colorado Springs, Colo., the spirit of
athletics serving as the unifying force.
The
July 12-17 2011 International Blind Sports Federation World Youth and
Student Championships brought in more than 200 of the world’s most
gifted young blind and visually impaired competitors and created a
veritable melting pot of athletic aspirations and accomplishments.
Every
two years the IBSA games—hosted by the United States Association of
Blind Athletes—can pull the Paralympic hopes of many a little closer to
reality. This
year’s version did just that. Whether through judo, track and field or
goalball, the adolescent athletes from 17 countries experienced
international competition—some for the first time—at the Colorado
College El Pomar Gymnasium and the St. Mary’s High School Athletic
Complex. “The
IBSA World Youth Championships is a platform for our visually impaired
athletes,” Neels Matthÿser, South African Delegation Team Leader, said.
“It boosts their morale, and it teaches them to focus. “The main aim is
to better the athletes’ personal performances. The IBSA World Youth
Championships shows through the years that youth obtain the opportunity
to kick start their careers as future athletes. Without these games,
where will the visually impaired have such a platform?”
The
ultimate return on each country’s athletic assets comes in the form of
future Paralympic qualifiers. It’s no simple feat for any competitor
anywhere. “In
any international sport’s organization, the key challenge is to
continue to develop young athletes who will eventually participate in
world and Paralympic competitions,” Jim Leask, the International
Paralympic Committee’s Chairman of the Sport Council Committee, said. The
process requires painstaking effort from athletes, coaches and
administrators alike, with just a select few reaching the ideal level of
performance. But, through IBSA and USABA, that ambition can become and
remain a quantifiable goal for any athlete willing to endure the
travails. “It’s a stepping stone to the next level,” Team USA Track and
Field Head Coach Tim Cobb said of the biennial event. “It’s coming out
of the grassroots, and it’s something a little bit more intense and a
little bit more rewarding.”
While
all unique, each of the three sports is similar in producing top-tier
capabilities through elite competition. “By sending our visually
impaired young people to the IBSA World Youth Championships, we create
good conditions for the future to have many motivated adults who train
and compete,” Sweden judo coach Martin Pernheim said. “This is a
prerequisite to achieve the highest quality at the Paralympics.”
Even
in sport like goalball—featuring small roster sizes and even fewer
roster spots available at the Paralympic level—demands that upward
influx.
“Goalball
is no exception,” Leask said. “The World Youth and Student
Championships has been a key element in the development of goalball
athletes since its inception. The goalball competition at the 2011 event
was outstanding and world class.”
Upper-echelon
ability showed up on many result sheets during the six-day event.
Competitors the world over continue to make similar strides in their
athletic lives thousands of miles away, putting forth the same sweat and
energy into every endeavor. And whether the IBSA World Youth and
Student Championships are just the beginning or the apex of achievement
for countless talented blind or visually impaired athletes with
Paralympic hopes, the journey there every two years represents the
attainment of a dream in itself.
“It
also unites visually impaired athletes from all over the globe,”
Matthÿser said. “It gives visually impaired athletes the courage to
compete against each other. Athletes feel at home whilst being amongst
other visual impaired athletes.”
Michael
Kinoshita—a soon-to-be junior at Folsom High School in Folsom,
Calif.—earned a golden sweep for Team USA Track and Field in his first
IBSA games. The standout track and cross country runner won the B3
intermediate 800-meter run (2 minutes, 15.76 seconds), the 1,500
(4:48.82) and the 5,000 (18:37.00).
The
feeling of victory on an international scale left Kinoshita a bit
dumbfounded, just as it did many other competitors from the world over.
“When I stood up on the podium, I was just shocked,” he said. “I didn’t know what to do.”

The IBSA Judo team is just back from a great action in Senegal, a new member of IBSA.
From the 11th to the 17th of February 2011, Jean-Claude Prieur (Chairman), Nadine Galy-Prieur (IBSA Judo Technical Assitant), Daniel Goldschimd (IBSA Judo Head Referee) and Roland M'Bog (IBSA Judo Technical Assistant), were in Dakar and Thies in order to develop the practice of blind judo with a great support from the Judo Senegal Federation and the Senegal Handisport Federation.
The first step of the journey was in Dakar, where the seminar took place in the Talibou Dabo centre, a great house for impaired people. On the same occasion the Grand Yoff Judo Tournament (non-impaired) was organised and 100 judo players, teachers and referees were gathered. It was the perfect timing to do the seminar in order to highlight all rules, technics and all important things for the practise of blind judo. A big thank you to to the Grand Yoff judo club and its teachers Assane Diop and Nango Diagne whose help was very important for setting up this IBSA Judo mission. It is also important to thank Mr Dia (President of the Senegal Judo Federation) and Mr Alassane Thiuobe (Technical Director) for their work in order to promote this semniar to all their teachers and also for their material and logistic support. In order to have the link beetween impaired and non-impaired judo we have to thank Mr Agne Sene (President of the Senegal Handisport Federation) whose work was very effective. The IBSA Judo team is very happy with the success of this mission as the Senegal Sports Minister and Mrs Kane Dieynaba (Senegal Sports Director) were very enthusiatics with the work done in order to integrate impaired people.
The second step of the mission was in the city of Thiés. The IBSA Judo team wants to thank the French city of Caen, which is closely linked to Thiés and without its support this action would not have been possible. The IBSA judo team was warmly welcomed by Mr Alassane Wane director of the INEFJA (Institute of education and formation for young blinds), as the mission took place in his establishment, and Izmaila Diallo director of the young and sports for Thies (representing the mayor of Thiés). The seminar took place in the new Dojo of the INEFJA, fully equiped with the new mats provided by the city of Caen, some used mats from Judo club of the Paris region and some mats and 60 judogis from the dotation of Jaques Noris (SFAM Cergy). During the seminar the IBSA Judo team gave all instructions to teachers and referees in order to continu the work with the young blinds and keep pushing the practise of blind judo in the future. On the mats all the young blind players were very motivated and showed great skills coming from the practise of the African Wrestling. We also like to add that Cecifoot France has given 10 specific blind judo balls to the INEAJF, in order to keep playing football, as the activity was stop due to a lack of tools.
This mission revealed a great potential in Senegal, and we hope that one day some players will compete in the Blind Judo Tournament in the Paralympics Games. One player will make his first debut in the 1st IBSA Judo African Championships hosted in Cape Town, South Africa, in November 2011.
Here are some photos of the mission hosted in Senegal :

The IBSA Judo team is in South Africa meeting the Commonwealth Judo Association and the South African Sports Confederation and the Olympic Committee. The goal is to develop the practise of judo for visually impaired, by training coaches, referees and even athletes. Thanks to Mr Jacques Norios, the IBSA Judo team had the opportunity to give Judogi to youngs and older athletes, as he was our partner for this journey by offering us Judogi. Everybody was very happy to have an official judogi when practising Judo.
On the first week-end the IBSA Judo team had the chance to enjoy the South African Judo Championships for visually impaired and non impaired athletes. This championship is set up in order to have the final competition, after many ranking events in all parts of the country. Winners are South African Judo Champions. Before the event, Daniel Goldschmid, has trained to specific IBSA standards, 30 national referees, 3 continental referees and 1 world referee (which has been apointed referee for the next IBSA Judo World Championships in Antalya, being the first African referee of IJF at this level.
Almost 500 athletes on the Week end, with 110 visually impaired!!! The IBSA Judo team was really surprised with the number of young athletes visualy impaired, showing the strong politic of formation and recruting set up by the Sport Recreation South Africa. Thanks to Mr&Miss Lorraine and Mike Job who are really involved since a long time, in developing judo for visually impaired. Even if today, the level of South African visually impaired athletes is not as high in IBSA countries with a strong tradion in Judo, it is sure that in few years we will count South Africa in the best IBSA Judo nations.
On the 4th day the IBSA Judo team had the opportunity to visit in Cape Town, an other judo centre for visually impaired athletes. This centre is 40 years old, it is a school for 400 young people from 6 to 20. Almost 200 visually impaired are having school in this centre. During an hour and a half, Jean-Claude Prieur and his team gave a trainning session to 30 people. We were also showing to 15 coaches of the city. We also took an hour and a half in order to answer their questions about IBSA Judo, during a friendly drink (not bad under the sun of SA!!!). Everybody was very happy and we hope it will help Mike and Lorraine in their work of developing judo for visually impaired. We are sure to count on some athletes in future IBSA Judo International Competition, due to their skills and their ambition. Judo offers them a way to exist and to discipline themselves. The country needs more centre for visually impaired as there is a large number a visually impaired people in South Africa.
Following days the IBSA Judo team meet in Johannesburg with Mr Leon Fleiser, the Manager Team Preparation of the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee. We talked about the practise of IBSA Judo in SA, and the wish of SA to have athletes participating in the Paralympics Games. There is a lot of potential and Mr Fleiser is sure that more coaches need to be trained like what has been done recently by the IBSA Judo Team. In the afternoon we did a class on the visually impaired judo with many SA black belts, at the University of Wits. It was again on opportunity for Daniel Goldschmid who let them know the bases of refereeing. According to the request of all teachers, Nadine Gally-Prieur did a class on the practise of judo in a wheelchair, none of the teacher had a knowledge on how to do it.
It is now time to go home, but we want to thank every one who welcomed us in this beautiful country with a large openminded view!!! We hope that the first national visually impaired judo championship will be happening in Cape Town. As South Africa in 2011 will be hosting in the covention centre of Cape Town the Junior Judo World Championships, we wish to organize on the same week end the first IBSA Judo African Championships.

The IBSA judo is proud to announce that Antalya has been elected host city for the next IBSA Judo World Championships from the 25th until the 29th of March 2010. Last month in Turkey, all members of the IBSA judo and the Local Organizing Committee were gathered in order to visit the city and the venue site. On this occasion the chairman of the LOC was saying that "the hosting of major events like the IBSA Judo World Championships is the foremost way for us to develop and foster our great sport within the country". Antalya has made so many efforts in that way, that the IBSA has appointed the Turkish city host for the next IBSA World Games in 2011. This month the Turkish Judo and Kurash Federation will host in Antalya the Judo Individual European Championships Under 23 Years. As it will be hosted in the same sports hall in Antalya, the Turkish Blind Sports Federation will take serious note in order to prepare the IBSA Judo World Championships 2010. Please note that all information about the IBSA Judo World Championships and all needed documents are available @ www.antalya2010.com.
